Between weddings and a fun case of food poisoning, I flipped channels to TLC and found myself on “Toddlers and Tiaras“. What struck me even more than than the flamboyance of 3 year-olds with fake teeth, huge hair, spray tans, heavy makeup, and midriffs was their parents. And no, it’s not just the terrible ‘stage parent’ syndrome that they all seem to harbor, but (excuse me for being somewhat offensive here) it’s that 90% of them are quite unattractive. It’s really not all that different from my childhood days when my dad would complain that our gym teachers were always severely overweight, thus ironic that they were teaching us about physical education.
Seems to me they are funneling their little ones through this ‘beauty’ system to make themselves feel better. Also seems especially apparent when the kids are kicking and screaming and mom (and sometimes dad), not looking quite so nice themselves, force his/her daughter to walk on stage like a robot and do an awkward dance routine.
In my opinion, I can imagine there would be a lot of other hobbies one could take up that would cost less and still make them feel better about themselves. This may sound overly offensive to some, but tune in and you really can’t deny it.
